The cost of each rental varies with the rental season; $80 for the summer, $90 for the semester, or $180 for the year. For each rental we require a deposit for the cost of the bike $320, which means a charge for the full cost of the bike will appear on your credit card (not the cost of the bike plus the rental fee). Once you return the bike, provided it is brought back in good condition, you will get your deposit back less the rental fee.
You’ll receive a confirmation email from the online platform noting that your order has been submitted to our shop. You will receive another email shortly notifying you that your order has been confirmed or that we need a bit more time to order a bike in your size. Either way, your bike will be ready to pick up from our store in one to seven business days.
When you receive the notice that your order has been confirmed, you can come pick it up at Neutral Cycle at 624 South Fifth Street, Champaign, IL 61820.
Unfortunately, this means you will not get your security deposit back. However, because we don’t want you to get your bike stolen, we offer a discount with your bike purchase for a high-security chain or U-Lock.

You will be instructed to choose the ‘end date’ for your rental as you check out online, and your confirmation email will note the ‘end date’ for your rental. Return the bike anytime before or on this date, and a staff member will check the bike for damages and process your security deposit return.
Things happen, we understand a little bit of wear-and-tear. The bike will be inspected for damages beyond what is normal wear, and damages will be deducted from the amount of your deposit to be returned.
Damage deductions include:
Bent or damaged frame: $100.00
Bent or damaged fork: $25.00
Bent or damaged rear wheel: $40.00
Bent or damaged front wheel: $30.00
Bent or damaged rear brake: $20.00
Bent or damaged front brake: $20.00
1 to 3 inches of scratches: $5.00
4 to 10 inches of scratches: $10.00
Popped or damaged tires: $20.00
Chambana Bike is open to our entire community! Due to the high volume of long-term rentals by the University of Illinois and Parkland College student body, our rental periods and pricing are designed around the academic semesters.
